Just wanted to thank God for the many blessings that we have
received. I will continue to provide guidance and inspiration to those
that follow.
The atmosphere is changing. The first game is 46 days away. 1,104
hours away. 26,496 seconds away. What are you doing to prepare yourself
right now for the best season of your life? I can't stress it enough:
what you do right now will be what makes or breaks your season. Half of
the summer is gone! Wake up! I don't know how your season was last year.
Are you proud of it? Disappointed? Are you happy about your stats? Did
you earn any scholarships because of it? If not, get up, wake up, focus up. A college offer
does not come easy. It takes hours of work if you're going to take
control of your own recruiting destiny. Parents, listen up as well.
Some people are gifted with natural ability. When they step
on the field, no matter the preparation they put in before the event, they will
shine. No matter the pressure, their instincts will take over. Others,
like me, had to train to be in top shape when my best was needed. I have never
run below a 4.6 40. Never jumped above a 32-inch vert. I have to
earn my keep through my work ethic. I have to study the playbook during
the off-season. I have to watch film of practice and 1 vs. 1's. I
have to work on my catching skills. I will never be the best athlete on
the field, but I believe in my heart I put in more work than everybody on the
field which is why I deserve to be there. The work I put in before a
season is that confidence I need, that I know I can compete with anybody you
put in front of me. My work ethic is equivalent to God-given talent.
I don't know what this year means to you or your son, or if you
even value it the way I do my own, but the work you put in RIGHT NOW will show
you results when the season rolls around. HARD WORK, man. That is
what it's going to take. I've taken you through the process of
visualizing what you want. I've talked about the faith you need at your
side while chasing dreams. Now, you implement a constant, relentless
grind. Hard work. I named this blog Focus Up because you are living in your
dream whether you know it or not. At this point in the summer, you can
control your outcome by the psychical preparation you give
yourself through blood, sweat, and tears. Or mentally by visualizing the season before it
happens. What role will you play for your team? Are you going to make
game-winning touchdown runs? Are you going to cause the game-changing
turnover? The time is now to decide. Vision, faith, work.
Who will you be in a month? What type of player do you have
to be to get recruited by your favorite college? SEC? ACC? USA South? ODAC?
What type of player are they looking for?
This was heavy on my mind because after leaving church this
Sunday, I realized that how I manage the little bit that God has giving me so
far, will determine if God is ready to bless me with more responsibility.
I have goals, but if I am not able to manage the little things here in
2014, how can I manage many things in 2021? I want to relate my struggle to
anyone reading this. If you are not getting the recruiting exposure you
want, take a look at yourself. With your work ethic, are you ready to start at
the college level? Don't make any excuses, because I'm not. To the
parents, if you want a promotion at your job, do you manage your own duties to
the best of your abilities? Can you handle the little that God has given
you right now? Manage that and prove that you can handle more.
This is just a little from my heart.

Mathew 25:23
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things
