Spotlight Recap: (Southern Guilford - 58 @ Smith High - 18)

Reggie Gallaspy. Humble. Christian. Explosive. Down to earth. Hungry. These are the type of words I would use to describe my observation of him tonight.  Dude is built like a horse and runs like it too.  Also, working in his favor, his o-line, though undersized, gave him huge running lanes tonight.  

Early in the game Reggie dashed the Eagles through the middle for a few TD's totaling 140 touchdown yards in the first quarter.  Smith's adjustment was to stuff the box to limit Reggie's running room.  Southern had two answers for that.  Because Smith went cover one and cover zero the majority of the game, Southern took shots down the field on the outsides.  Nathan Stoner (QB) has a great deep ball, and though he missed a few opportunities, he was able to find Ron Hunt for a few different occasions.  The second counter Southern had for Smith's decision to stuff the box was to run Reggie on the outside.  I saw a lot of outside zone looking to attack the edges of Smith's defense.  With great blocking from his receivers down field, Reggie broke for 4TDS and 347 yards total.  The kid is an animal. But he is humble.  Which is why I think God will continue to bless this young man. I got a chance to talk to Des Kitchings, NC State's running backs coach while he was taking a look at Reggie tonight.  We have had a few conversations before about some recruiting things but I asked him to give Reggie's performance a grade, similar to how I get graded after my games for Guilford College. He gave Reggie an A for an overall performance.  He mentioned Reggie's pass blocking which is key on the next level as a running back.  He also mentioned Reggie's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.  Oh and he didn't fail to mention that Reggie did finish up with 347 yards.  

Again, another successful night for me.  I see this area starting to get the recruiting recognition that it deserves.  We are still a long ways away but I see progress. In the Triad alone, we have enough talent to keep every college in this area recruiting within the community. That's my goal.
