Recruiting Is Not Passive

Recruiting Is Not Passive

Joshua 1:9
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

If you don't have a scholarship, there needs to be a burning desire to earn that first offer. Every possible avenue, you must pursue.

Have you ever read Matthew 13:12?
"Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance.  Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."

That scared me. And when I apply that to the subject of recruiting and scholarships, I see that once you earn a scholarship, it opens up more schools to offer a scholarship. And visa versa, schools are less likely to be the first to make an investment on an athlete that has not obtained scholarships from other schools.

Be Proactive
Reach out. Visit schools you are interested in. Go visit coaches at their offices. Take the time to do this thing all out. You are ultimately convincing a coach that you are worth their investment.

If you are less comfortable with reaching out, find a recruiting company to do this for you. There are many organization's that provide recruiting assistance  that you can lean on. Find the right one that fits your needs.

Increase Your Network
Believe it or not, the connection you need is a phone call away. One of my good friends got recruited because his best friend's dad knew someone that was on the alumni board at ECU. A phone call was made on my friends behalf and they began recruiting him within a month.

Another story is a friend of mine that got college recognition through his personal trainer. His personal trainer had sent about 5 guys to Duke over his years of training and was well connected with the coaching staff. All it took was a visit and a recommendation.

Find people that have the connection you need. Tap into the network. Reach out, talk to your network and ask. It's the same as if you were looking for a job. Put yourself out there and let it be known that you are looking to get yourself or your son/daughter noticed.

More Camps
Find more people to vouch for you. There are organizations that only exist to be a third party for it's participants. So when a coach researches your name through Google, you will have VTO Sports verifying that you run a 4.4 40. Or Janesh Sports verifying that you can throw a fastball at 93 mph. You want as many sources as possible speaking well about you.
