Getting Ahead in College Recruiting
James 2:26
Faith without works is dead
Camps
Camps are the most utilized tool of today's recruiting world. Coaches search through thousands of recruiting databases throughout a given off-season. An athlete's athletic potential is judged by how fast they run, how strong they are, how quick they can react, how high they can jump, how well they can catch, etc. This system of recruiting has been used for the past 20 years.
The Internet has allowed college coaches to research potential prospects without physically being in contact with an athlete. The results that you get from camps can turn into references to vouch for your potential as a college player.
Reaching Out
Reach out and build a relationship. College coaches are going to pursue athletes they are familiar with. Camps and combines are one way. But emailing and phone calls still work. It's marketing. The more time the coaches see an athlete's face/name the more consideration they'll get.
Call a coach during the off season. See how their family is doing. Ask questions about the team. For example. "Hey Coach Barnette, this is Josh Williams from Jordan High. How are things going with your family? Where am I sitting on your recruiting board?" Make that coach remember you. You are competing with thousands of other athletes. Do something to set you apart.
What Coaches Can Do To Help:
Recommend camps to your players
Give recommendations to college coaches about your athletes
Keep Hudl updated
Stay on top of players about academic and SAT work. Maybe provide study sessions before or after practice..
As For Me...
Things are well. Janesh is hosting our first combine this Saturday at Southwest Guilford High School. Super excited to get this combine season started.
In a combine, we test the athletic performance of the participants. This Saturday, we will be with Southwest's football team. So the testing would consist of:
40 yard dash
5-10-5 shuttle run
Vertical jump
Position skill set
I'm excited. I'll do a report on the top performers. I'll be sending that out in a press release.
Personally, I'm doing well. I'm looking forward to purchasing my new car this summer. Preferably an Infiniti or a Mazda. Also, I'm preparing to obtain my Masters in business. Wish me luck.
